EESS wins Southeast in boys hockey shoot-out

webeessboyshockey2Matt Berkelmans of host East Elgin Secondary School manoeuvred around a Tillsonburg player during the Thames Valley Southeast boys hockey final at East Elgin Community Complex, Thursday, Feb. 27. Tillsonburg had a 1-0 lead when, with one minute remaining in the game, EESS’s Derek Folkard scored to force overtime. The teams went to a shoot-out, which East Elgin won with goals from Jeff Bullas and Ryan VanRoestel. EESS goalie Garret Farquhar was the game’s most valuable player, stopping 24 shots on net. East Elgin will host the WOSSAA AAA championship at the Complex Monday, March 3, at 1:15 p.m. against either London’s Catholic Central High or Oakridge Secondary.
